The care we provide

Residential care

Residential Care

Day-to-day support for people who need help with personal care, medication, and meals. We keep things relaxed — there's no rigid timetable. Residents eat when they want, sleep when they want, and spend their time however they choose.

Respite stays

Respite Stays

Short breaks from one week to a month. We keep rooms available specifically for this, so we can usually fit people in at fairly short notice. Useful when families need a holiday or a rest from caring.

Companionship care

Companionship Care

Some of our residents are physically fine but were living alone and isolated. They come to us for company, not nursing. Regular meals, people to talk to, outings — sometimes that's all someone needs.

End of life

End of Life

We work alongside the local palliative care team so that residents can stay here, in their own room, with the people they know. We're experienced at this and we do it with care and without panic.

Living room at Harbour Court
The Building

Built in 2005, designed to feel like a seaside house

Harbour Court was purpose-built, so there are no awkward corridors or converted bedrooms. Every room is a proper size, every bathroom has a walk-in shower, and every window is big enough to let in real light.

The ground floor opens onto a sheltered courtyard garden. The first floor has a sun lounge with views towards the sea on clear days. There's nothing clinical about any of it — think coastal colours, wooden floors, and comfortable furniture.

Daily Life

No two days are the same — and that's the point

We don't run a timetable like a school. Some residents like activities — quizzes, painting, music, baking. Others prefer to read the paper, potter in the garden, or just sit and watch the world go by. Both are fine.

We do a weekly trip to the Whitstable seafront when the weather's decent. Fish and chips on the harbour wall is a highlight. On Fridays there's a pub-style social with a drink and live music from a local guitarist.

Dining at Harbour Court
Food

Cooked fresh, eaten together (or alone — up to you)

Our cook Karen has been with us since we opened. She makes everything from scratch — nothing comes out of a packet. There's always a choice at every meal, and if someone doesn't fancy what's on the menu, she'll sort something else.

Most residents eat in the dining room, but if someone wants a tray in their room, that's fine too. It's their home. Sunday roast is a big deal here. Families often come and join in.

"We looked at bigger, flashier homes. But the moment we walked into Harbour Court we could see this was the right place. It's calm, it's clean, and the staff actually seem happy to be there. Dad settled in straight away."
— Claire P., daughter of resident
